Pa. Boys: Kevin Gayhardt's basket lifts Episcopal past Phelps

A last-minute basket kept the Episcopal Academy boys' basketball team unbeaten Monday in a 46-44 win over visiting Phelps. Sophomore point guard Michael Jolaoso drove to the hoop, drew a double team, and dished it to Kevin Gayhardt for the go-ahead layup with 40 seconds remaining in the nonleague game.

Chris McNeal led the Churchmen (5-0) with 15 points. Gayhardt had 10.

In other nonleague action: Behind sharpshooting Daquan Bohannan, Northeast beat visiting Palumbo, 72-63. Bohannan made 6 of 7 three-point shots en route to 23 points.

Boys' Latin opened a 12-point lead in the first quarter and held on to win, 71-65, at Gospel of Grace. Yahmir Greenlee scored 14 points.

Quadir Welton and Jeffon Powell each had 11 rebounds as Math, Civics & Science won, 80-37, at Strawberry Mansion.

Girls' Basketball

Sophomore point guard Savannah Patterson shook off a first-half injury to score seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter as Parkway Northwest beat visiting Lincoln Leadership Academy, 38-34.

Field Hockey

Four local players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association all-American team.

Spring-Ford junior forward Alyssa Chillano and junior midfielder Gabrielle Major made the first team. Junior forward Moira Putsch of Inter-Ac co-champion Notre Dame was named to the second team.

Haverford High senior midfielder Jessica McCarthy made the third team.
