Pa. Boys: Germantown Academy edges Sanford

Penn State-bound center Julian Moore blocked a shot at the buzzer to secure the triumph over the defending Delaware state champs. James Drury combined on the stop.

Germantown Academy earned the win from the foul line. The Patriots shot 22 for 25 and were perfect in the fourth quarter. Lafayette recruit Nick Linder went 6 for 6 from the line down the stretch as the Patriots nursed a three-point lead they took late in the game.

Greg Dotson scored a game-high 25 points and Moore added 13. They both grabbed 14 rebounds.

In other nonleague action: Episcopal Academy poured it on from beyond the arc, hitting seven three-pointers en route to a 43-39 win at Bishop Shanahan. Chris McNeal and Mike Jolaoso led the Churchmen with nine points each.

Sean O'Brien triggered a furious fourth quarter for host Penn Charter in a 53-36 defeat of Freire Charter. The junior point guard scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Quakers closed the game on a 19-4 run. Senior center Mike McGlinchey pulled in 15 rebounds to go along with his 10 points.

Sophomore guard Shawn Alston spread the wealth, scoring 22 points and dishing out 10 assists as Haverford School downed visiting Boys' Latin, 67-58.

Sparked by eight points from Rashann London, Roman Catholic went on a 15-5 run in the second quarter on its way to a 62-43 win over Shipley at Holy Family University. Shep Garner added 14 points.

Father Judge shot 22 for 25 from the line in a 63-47 win over visiting Strawberry Mansion. Sean Hanna led the Crusaders with 12 points.

Germantown Friends led by nine with a minute left, and withstood a ferocious rally to outlast visiting Mastery Charter South, 61-59. Sophomore guard Ray Leon scored seven of his 15 in the third quarter as the Tigers broke open a tie game. Freshman Austin Harriott added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Shawn Miller shot 7 for 8 from the field for 16 points as Archbishop Ryan downed visiting Lincoln, 65-45. Bryan Okolo added 16 points.

City of Palms Tournament. A day after its 61-game winning streak was snapped, Chester began anew by beating Lake Wales (Fla.), 78-64 in Fort Myers, Fla. Arizona recruit Rondae Jefferson scored 27 points and had 11 rebounds and five assists.

Chick-fil-A Classic. Rysheed Jordan scored 19 points and had eight rebounds, but Vaux fell to Spring Valley (S.C.), 86-74, in Columbia, S.C.

Friends Basketball Showcase. Joe Robinson and Jordan Greene both had a big first half, skating Abington Friends to a big lead it never gave up in a 75-49 victory over New Garden Friends (N.C.) in Greensboro, N.C. Greene scored 10 of his 16 in the first, and Robinson had 10 of his 19 in the second.

Karonn Davis poured in 26 points and had eight steals and seven assists to lead Friends' Central to a 82-42 win over Carolina Friends. Billy Cassidy hit five three-pointers en route to 25 points, and De'Andre Hunter added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Suburban One Continental. Matt Scamuffo led host Central Bucks South with 19 points in a 70-38 win against Quakertown.

Suburban One National. Merdic Green poured in 25 points as Council Rock North won at Truman, 64-53.

Deion Jones helped seal Bensalem's 57-49 win over visiting William Tennent by going 8 for 8 from the line in the fourth. He also had eight assists and four steals.

Suburban One American. Senior guard Bernard Gordon picked up 13 points, seven assists, and four steals to lead Norristown over visiting Upper Moreland, 69-56.

Football

St. Joseph's Prep head coach Gabe Infante has been named an assistant coach for the East team in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The national high school all-star game will be held Jan. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
