The top-seeded Eastern field hockey team won its 15th consecutive sectional title Tuesday afternoon, but for Austyn Cuneo, it has been a season unlike any other.

The junior scored six goals to lead the Vikings past visiting sixth-seeded Washington Township, 11-0, in the South Jersey Group 4 final. Cuneo's last score was her 83d of the year and set the national single-season goals record.

Tracey Fuchs of Centereach High School on Long Island - and recently named Big Ten Coach of the Year at Northwestern - had held the record with her 82-goal senior campaign in 1983.

Eastern's Karlee Spirit added a hat trick, and Mackenzie Mlkvy assisted on five goals.

South Jersey Group 1

Hannah Cressman scored twice to move top-seeded host Pitman past No. 2 Glassboro, 2-1 in the final.

Cressman's winning goal came in the second half with the game tied, 1-1.

Both goalies stood out, as Annie Beato stopped three shots to earn the win and Natalie Dickol made 13 saves for the Bulldogs.

Leah Davies' first-half goal proved to be the winner as No. 4 Ocean City upset second-seeded Mainland, 1-0, Monday in the sectional final.

Rialee Allen and Kelly Hanna assisted on Davies' score. Sarita Charap made five saves for the Red Raiders.

Volleyball

Fourth-seeded Sterling turned back visiting No. 12 Caldwell, 2-0, with game scores of 25-16, 25-15 in the state Group 2 quarterfinals on Tuesday.
