Carroll prepares to face Virginia power

Archbishop Carroll is looking at Monday's meeting with the Virginia powerhouse that produced Carmelo Anthony and Rajon Rondo as an opportunity.

"Challenges like this are why you play," said Carroll coach Paul Romanczuk. "Let's take advantage and have some fun with it."

The Patriots (6-0) will face Oak Hill (Va.) in the final of the Chick-fil-A Classic at 8:30 p.m. in Columbia S.C.

Oak Hill (12-1), which has graduated more than 20 NBA players, ranks No. 8 in the USA Today Super 25.

"They have Division I guys coming off the bench," Romanczuk said.

The Patriots boast D-I talent of their own. Derrick Jones scored 27 in their 72-63 semifinal victory over Country Day (Fla.), and Ernest Aflakpui is in the midst of a breakout.

"He's been the best big man in the first two games," Romanczuk said. "If not the best player."
