S. Jersey Boys: Sat. S.J. boys: Williamstown comes up grand in Slam

Jake Goffredi smashed a game-tying, RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored the winning run on a fielder's choice to help the Williamstown baseball team beat host Washington Township, 9-8, in the Grand Slam Classic final Saturday.

Goffredi scored from third when Anthony Racobaldo hit a grounder to short, and the throw home went over the catcher's head.

The win completed a comeback for the Braves, who were down by five runs. Justin Keegan hit a three-run homer during a five-run sixth inning for Williamstown.

Millville Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Jake Miller not only pitched a four-hitter during Shawnee's 7-1 victory over Glassboro, he also came up with the game's biggest hit. His team trailing by a run, Miller smacked a two-run double in the fourth that put the Renegades up for good.

Mike Follet doubled, tripled, scored a run, and knocked in two runs for Cherokee, which doubled up Kingsway, 6-3. Winning pitcher Frank Rosetti went six innings, allowed two earned runs on six hits, and struck out five.

Dante Camilli belted two hits, scored three times, and batted in two runs as Schalick trounced Bridgeton, 16-2. Joey Maccri was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Spicer Classic. Nick DiEva went 3 for 4 with two doubles, five RBIs, and a run to power Cherry Hill East to a 13-3 victory over GCIT in the championship at Haddonfield. Nick Ciocco was 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs.

In the consolation, Charlie Clarke singled to center to bring in the winning run for Haddonfield, which topped Atlantic City, 4-3, in eight innings. Michael McLaughlin blasted a three-run homer in the sixth.

Al Hedelt Tournament. Dominic Lopez lifted a two-run homer in the sixth to help Buena to an 11-0 win over Camden Catholic in a first-round game at Oakcrest. The home run triggered the 10-run rule.

In other first-round action:

Oakcrest's Tyler Thompson scattered five hits over seven innings to shut out St. Joseph, 6-0. He struck out eight to get the win in his first start of the season. Thompson also went 2 for 4 at the plate.

Matt Branco went 3 for 4 and scored twice for Absegami, which blanked Holy Spirit, 6-0. Matt Ardente added two hits and drove in three.

Josh Shimp tripled, homered, scored four runs, and batted in four to power Pennsville to a 15-2 rout of Atlantic County Tech.

Emeritus Classic. Bryan Brubaker reached first on an error to bring home Nick Pera and give Egg Harbor Township a 6-5 win over Eastern in the championship game.

Burlington County Tournament. Tommy Walters smacked two hits, drove in two runs, and scored another for No. 7 Bordentown, which topped No. 10 Riverside, 7-5, at home.

Pitcher Drew Chiszar earned his first varsity win. Bordentown will face No. 2 Holy Cross on May 3.

Nonleague. Bryan Dobzanski pitched a complete game, allowed three earned runs, and struck out six to give Delsea a 7-4 victory over Lenape on the road.

Lacrosse

Dan O'Keefe deposited two goals during host Seneca's 5-2 nonleague triumph over Cherokee. Zack Aho, Ryan Bradway, and Nick LaSaint each recorded a goal. Timmy Carroll scored both goals for Cherokee.

Dean DiSimone scored two goals for St. Augustine, which fell to Malvern Prep, 7-6, at the Katie Samson Festival at Radnor (Pa.). Sophomore AJ Traynor scored the winner for Malvern Prep, which is ranked in the top ten nationally by several services.
