St. Basil's Karen Lapkiewicz played all five positions, scored 20 points, and even guarded the opposition's two best players as the Panthers topped York Catholic, 46-42, Tuesday night in a PIAA Class AA second-round game at Coatesville.
"She did everything but drive the bus for us," St. Basil coach Terry Mancini said.
Which is lucky for Lapkiewicz, because it was likely a fun ride home.
York Catholic knocked the Panthers out of the state semifinals two years ago.
Lapkiewicz made sure history would not repeat itself. She finished with 10 rebounds and five assists. Natalie Kucowski had 10 rebounds and 12 blocks.
St. Basil will face District 2 runner-up Holy Redeemer in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Neumann-Goretti 56, Minersville 21 - Ciani Cryor racked up 18 points, eight assists, and five steals to power the Saints at Garden Spot. Sianni Martin scored 14, and Christina Aborowa grabbed six offensive rebounds.
Ann McKnight scored all seven of her points in the third quarter to help Archbishop Carroll erase a two-point halftime deficit and defeat North Penn, 39-31, at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
The Patriots will take on Central Bucks West, which beat Upper Dublin, 57-28, at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
Cardinal O'Hara 53, Central Dauphin East 48 - Maura Hendrickson went 4 for 5 from the line in the second half to lead the Lions at Penn Manor. Molly Paolino scored 14 and Mary Sheehan added 13.
