Girls' basketball preview: Plymouth Whitemarsh's Taylor O'Brien leading players to watch this season
The top stat leaders for girls' basketball in Southeastern Pa.
Suburban One: Plymouth Whitemarsh guard Taylor O'Brien
O'Brien averaged 26 points during a three-game stretch from Dec. 8-11. She scored a game-high 31 points and guided a strong defensive effort in Plymouth Whitemarsh's 52-46 victory over the host Rams in last Saturday's Pennridge Memorial Classic championship game. Holding a three-point lead with under a minute to go, O'Brien came up with a clutch steal and then made two free throws.
Public League: Audenried center Samirra Howard-Williams
The 6-foot-4 Howard-Williams averaged a triple-double of 16.7 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 blocks over three games from Dec. 8-13. Her best game came against Washington on Monday, when she recorded 14 points and 24 rebounds to go along with a school-record 17 blocks.
Catholic League: Bishop McDevitt's Dana Mizelle
Mizelle scored 34 points in Bishop McDevitt's 72-16 victory over Simon Gratz on Monday. She scored 17 points two days later in a 43-33 triumph over Friends' Central.
Inter-Ac League: Germantown Academy guard Jaye Haynes
Haynes averaged 13 points during a six-game stretch from Dec. 1-12. She notched 19 points and seven rebounds in a 64-28 win over Peddie School on Dec. 5. The Patriots are off to a 6-0 start.
Central League: Great Valley's Sadie Buzan
Buzan poured in 24 points during Tuesday's 47-21 decision over Norristown. She scored 13 of Great Valley's 15 first-quarter points.
Pioneer Athletic Conference: Upper Merion's Jordan Wilson
Wilson netted 28 points in Upper Merion's 66-63 overtime loss to West Chester Henderson on Tuesday.
Friends Schools League: Shipley forward Anna Camden
Camden led Shipley to a 4-1 start by averaging 17.8 points and 14 rebounds. She scored 23 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in a 60-45 victory over Springside Chestnut Hill on Tuesday. Camden also recorded 17 rebounds in a win over Lawrenceville last Saturday.
Bicentennial League: Jenkintown's Jennifer Kremp
Kremp averaged 15 points while guiding Jenkintown to a 3-0 start. She combined for 39 points during last weekend's Oreland Lions Tournament, which Jenkintown won.
Ches-Mont League: Downingtown East forward Erin Phelan
Phelan opened the season with a 27-point performance in Downingtown East's 52-41 triumph over Easton last Friday. She added 25 points three days later in a 64-27 victory over Ches-Mont League National Division foe Downingtown West.
Catholic Academies: St. Basil forward Denae Carter
Carter recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday's 59-29 rout of Country Day School of the Sacred Heart. She started the season with a 14-point game against St. Hubert on Dec. 8.
Tri-County League: Collegium Charter forward Destyni Wood
Wood averaged 16 points and 6.3 rebounds during a four-game run from Dec. 8-13. She started the season with back-to-back 20-point games against Pottsgrove and Wyomissing.
