Thurs. S.J. football roundup: Dyer runs wild in Palmyra win

Dyer had scoring runs of 63, 33, 57, 37 and 34 yards in eclipsing the school single-game rushing mark of 334 yards, set by Derek Holloway in 1978.

Palmyra (7-3 overall, 3-1 conference) leads Burlington City (3-7, 2-2) in the Thanksgiving Day rivalry, 54-45-12, with five wins over the last six seasons.

Penns Grove 44, Pennsville 7 - Penns Grove's streak of 27 consecutive quarters without a point allowed ended when Pennsville's Ryan Hawthorne scored in the first quarter, but the host Red Devils responded with seven straight touchdowns.

Running back Jay Brown, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior, reached 1,023 yards for the season with a 159-yard game and scored twice.

Fullback King Seals put Penns Grove (8-1) ahead for good with a 40-yard TD run up the middle on a fourth-and-one play, and quarterback Nick Elmer threw his 21st and 22d touchdown passes of the season.

Pennsville, which won its first nine games this fall and claimed the Classic Division title, finished at 9-2 and trails Penns Grove, 27-23-4, in the rivalry since 1957.

Gloucester 27, Gloucester Catholic 26 - Linebacker Joe Collins' tackle stuffed a two-point conversion attempt with 19 seconds remaining, preserving the wild win for the visiting Lions (5-5).

Steve Kumpf produced 169 yards and one touchdown, Daulton Dunn passed for 100 yards and three scores, and the Gloucester defense came up with five turnovers.

Gloucester Catholic (3-7), which saw its series lead trimmed to 18-17-1, scored the final 12 points on Cody Brown's three-yard run and the senior quarterback's 62-yard bomb to Dan Golden.

Shawnee 31, Lenape 14 - Ed Royds (161 yards rushing) and Vince Corbi (79 yards) each ran for a pair of touchdowns, as the host Renegades (6-4) continued their holiday dominance of Lenape (4-6).

Stefan Kancylarz (9 for 13 passing, 157 yards) scored on a short run and threw a TD pass for the Indians, but it wasn't enough to prevent Shawnee from extending its series lead to 32-6-2.

Rancocas Valley 24, Pemberton 6 - Rancocas' balanced attack of DeShawn Jones with 103 yards rushing and Ryan Flynn with 90 passing yards produced the win over the visiting Hornets (3-7).

Aaron Lewis caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Flynn, and Ian Gibson and Jones each ran for scores.

The Red Devils (6-4) own a 26-23-4 edge in the rivalry, which dates to 1945.

Glassboro 19, Deptford 7 - Corey Clement carried the ball just seven times, but scored the first two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (9-2), who lead the rivalry with visiting Deptford, 10-7-1.

Clement opened the scoring with a 79-yard TD run and finished with 91 yards for the Bulldogs, who will play Paulsboro on Dec. 4 for the South Jersey Group 1 title.

Overbrook 39, Lindenwold 22 - Russell Forchion intercepted a pair of passes and accounted for two touchdowns and over 200 yards of total offense, and Danny Wilson threw for 248 yards and three TDs to send the Rams (3-7) to their second home win of the season.

Forchion had 94 yards receiving and scored on runs of 80 and 12 yards in finishing with 115 yards on the ground. Liberty Gantt and Deandre Dreddon, who combined to catch Wilson's three scoring passes, each had a pair of interceptions.

Jason Hutzler threw for three scores for the Lions (2-8), who have lost all three Thanksgiving Day matchups with Overbrook.

Pitman 43, Clayton 12 - Pitman (5-5, 3-1) spotted the visiting Clippers (1-9, 1-3) a 6-0 first-quarter lead in the Classic Division matchup before storming back to post the schools's best record since 2002.

The Panthers used a balanced attack, paced by Ian MacCorkle's 113 passing yards and 62 rushing yards, Mike McIlvaine's 135 yards on the ground, and Dylan Colgate's 46 yards receiving. MacCorkle ran for a pair of touchdowns.

On defense, Jeff Wood made 10 tackles and Will Cioffi had eight for the winners.

Florence 60, Riverside 6 - Darnell Coles ran for three touchdowns and added a fourth with a 20-yard interception return, sparking Florence (6-4), which owns a 44-24-1 lead in the holiday rivalry with the host Rams (0-10) since 1942.

Jake Foehr added two touchdown runs, and Quadir Franklin sprinted 68 yards for a score with the game's longest play.

Bishop Eustace 12, Pennsauken 7 - Sean Bell's second touchdown run of the day, with just over seven minutes remaining, allowed the visiting Crusaders (3-7) to hold on for their second consecutive win over Pennsauken (6-4).

The Indians own a 31-11-1 series record.

New Egypt 13, Bordentown 7 - Dylan Wills, who put the host Warriors (8-3) ahead with a 25-yard pass to Kenny Massa in the first quarter, scored the game-winner on a two-yard keeper in the final period.

New Egypt has beaten Bordentown (2-8) seven times in the last eight seasons to take a 7-3 series lead.

Colonial

Dwuan Martin's 101-yard interception return for a touchdown on the game's final play ended Woodbury's 61-0 Patriot Division-clinching triumph over visiting Gateway (1-9, 0-5).

Karon Gibson had seven carries for 150 yards and scored four touchdowns, and Tyler Jenkins chipped in with four carries for 92 yards and a pair of scores.

The Herd (9-2, 5-0) has won 24 of the 34 Thanksgiving meetings between the schools.

Haddonfield 27, Haddon Heights 0 - The Haddonfield defense forced six turnovers and Kevin Davis directed a balanced offense, leading the host Bulldogs (10-1, 4-1) to their eighth consecutive Thanksgiving Day win over Liberty Division rival Haddon Heights (4-6, 2-3).

Davis opened the scoring with a 30-yard run in the first quarter and closed out a 20-0 third-quarter spree with a 12-yard pass to Nick Rodriguez. Chris Dengler had 101 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.

Haddonfield leads the all-time series, 55-41-6.

Audubon 54, Haddon Township 7 - Brian Flacco rolled to 278 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries, and Charlie Slack completed 5 of 6 passes for 140 yards and two scores to highlight host Audubon's rout of Haddon Township (2-8, 1-4) in a Patriot Division clash.

The Green Wave (5-5, 3-2), which improved to 31-16-1 in the series, also scored on defense and special teams - Chris Borgesi took a kickoff back 70 yards and Nic Catling raced 35 yards with an interception.

Cape-Atlantic

Donta Pollock dominated Holy Spirit's 33-18 victory over visiting rival Atlantic City by gaining 215 yards rushing and scoring three touchdowns.

Pollock carried the ball 32 times for the Spartans (11-0), who trail Atlantic City in the rivalry, 48-30-4.

Spirit's Steve Hartley had three interceptions, including one for a 38-yard touchdown, and Josh Popper collected 11 tackles and two quarterback sacks.

Millville 28, Vineland 0 - Millville's only shutout of the season featured 148 rushing yards on 12 carries by Alquann Jones as the Thunderbolts (6-4, 3-2) prevailed at Vineland (5-5, 1-4) in the state's oldest rivalry.

Jones also scored when he ran 30 yards with a blocked punt in the second quarter, and teammate Tyson Still contributed 76 rushing yards in the Division I contest.

Wednesday Games

A. J. Arcaini's 22-yard field goal with 8 seconds to play lifted Delran (5-5) over host Cinnaminson, 18-15, in the West Jersey League Patriot.

Delran tied the game with 7:41 left when Billy Stokes took an inside handoff for a 25-yard touchdown run.

Kyle Yansick scored twice and Dominic Elly ran for 141 yards for the Pirates (5-5).

Cumberland 27, Schalick 23 - Charles Winder's 14-yard TD run sealed the win for the visiting Colts (7-3), spoiling a 228-yard rushing day and school-record 94-yard TD run by Kyle Philo of Schalick (5-4). Paul Gause owned the Cougars' previous mark, with a 92-yard touchdown in 2004.

Kingsway 40, Clearview 29 - Senior quarterback Rondell Gilmore, who rushed for 222 yards and four touchdowns, directed a pair of scoring drives in the final 2:44 to rally the Dragons (6-4) to the win at Clearview (4-6).

Pioneers' senior runningback Dan Garwood ran for 164 yards and three TDs on 15 carries.

Winslow Township 27, Eastern 7 - Bill Belton ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more, hitting Devante Waugh and Shaun Turner in the Eagles' (7-4) victory at Eastern (1-9).

St. Augustine 42, Buena 13 - John Barillo gained 120 yards on the ground, including TD runs of 1 and 93 yards, as the Hermits (4-6) knocked off visiting Buena (3-7).
