Woodrow Wilson girls hold off Burlington Twp.

Late layups by Dishel Briggs, Lyayshia Stevens, and Kamari Talley helped Woodrow Wilson stop a comeback bid by Burlington Township and clinch the host Tigers' 54-46 victory in the opening round of the South Jersey Group 3 basketball tournament on Monday night.

Talley, who wrapped up the key 6-0 run in the final minute, finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 steals.

Wilson's Chanelle Perry chipped in with 19 points, 8 boards, 3 blocks, and 3 steals.

Also in Group 3, Ocean City scored 16 of the game's first 20 points en route to a 61-27 first-round victory over visiting Westampton Tech. Julie Duggan ignited the Red Raiders with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Seneca captain Taylor Watson had 10 points and 5 steals among 10 Golden Eagles who contributed points to a 65-21 win over visiting Highland. Erica Snow hit a trio of three-pointers.

Nicole Carney and Tori Levari combined for 12 points in a 16-7 second quarter that gave Delsea a 19-point halftime advantage in a 52-31 win over visiting Cumberland.

Moorestown made 12 of 18 foul shots and played solid defense during a 42-22 win over visiting Pinelands. Emily Filoon's 12 points and Marissa Randazzo's 10 paced the Quakers' balanced offense.

South Jersey Group 1. Haddon Township broke open a close game with a 22-5 third quarter and cruised past visiting Penns Grove, 68-42. Sara DeCinque scored 13 of her 33 points in the third period, and Kelly Roche pulled down 11 rebounds.

Gloucester's defense held visiting Woodbury to five first-half points, sparking a 44-23 triumph. Johanna James (15 points) and Kathleen Velez led the defense with 5 steals each. Both had 3 assists each on offense.

Paulsboro advanced via a 41-36 win over visiting Audubon in which Tiaja Harrold tossed in 17 points and Alexus McKeithan snagged 10 rebounds. Paulsboro beat the Green Wave by 8 and 4 points in the regular season.

Salem overwhelmed visiting Gateway in a 19-0 first-quarter outburst and claimed a 69-29 win. The Rams' Ariana Slaughter had 17 points and 15 rebounds, Kenya Woods added 20 points and 6 assists, plus four first-half three-point baskets.

Glassboro disposed of visiting LEAP Academy, 61-49, with a 19-4 third-quarter spree led by Chelsea Schmidt (20), Shannon Reardigan (16), and Beth Shivers (12).

Cedar Creek used a 32-2 first quarter that included 18 points by Kristine Miller (30) to pin a 79-30 setback on visiting Wildwood.

Central Jersey Group 1. Despite having won just four regular-season games, Florence won a first-round playoff game, 40-33, at Keansburg. Shekynan James scored 14 points and blocked 7 shots for the Flashes, which overcame a one-point halftime deficit.
