Sat. S.J. boys' roundup: Haddonfield walks past Audubon

Haddonfield scored three times on bases-loaded walks on Saturday, opening the door for a 6-3 home win over Audubon, the No. 3 team in The Inquirer's South Jersey baseball Top 10.

Rob Perkins and Mike McLaughlin each had a run-scoring single in the Colonial Conference game, and Bulldogs junior righthander Jason Cavanaugh shut out Audubon after allowing three runs on three hits in the first inning.

Lee Ware Tournament. Winning pitcher Steve Rodier drove in three runs, while Brandon Cornelius and Billy Burton added two RBIs apiece for Timber Creek, which jumped on top early and cruised past Pennsauken Tech, 15-2, in the championship game at Woodstown.

Timber Creek advanced to the title game by outscoring Clearview, 10-7. Vince Pepenelli drove in three runs and Rodier belted a two-run home run for the Chargers.

Pennsauken Tech rolled over Woodstown, 16-4, in the other opening-round game.

Steve Keane batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Dave Young singled twice, scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs to key Clearview's 8-5 victory over Woodstown in the third-place game.

Olympic. Jim Rossi struck out 11 over 52/3 innings, and fourth-ranked Cherokee made the most of its two hits in turning back visiting Triton, 4-0.

Shane Garrett stole two bases and scored twice for the Chiefs, while Triton's John DeLuca picked up three hits in three at-bats.

Burlington County. Alex Kane silenced Palmyra's bats, ringing up 10 strikeouts and walking two in pitching a no-hitter, and John Adryan (3 for 4) belted a two-run home run in carrying host Holy Cross to a 9-0 win.

Nonleague. Josh Shimp doubled in one run and scored on a Payton Sorrles single in the eighth inning, making Pennsville a 5-3 winner at Egg Harbor Township.

Bob Barbieri's three-run home run in the sixth inning wrapped up sixth-ranked Hammonton's 10-2 romp over Haddon Heights under the lights at Hammonton Lake Park.

A bases-empty homer by Tom Lewis wasn't enough to keep Camden County Tech from falling, 4-2, at Cape May Tech.

St. Augustine's demanding nonleague schedule continued on Saturday, when the The Inquirer's top-ranked team outshot host Lawrenceville, 39-27, but came out on the short end of a 12-7 score.

Tommy O'Neill and Steve Pontrello had two goals apiece for the Hermits, who were unable to recover from an early 6-1 deficit.
