S. Jersey Girls: Fri. S.J. girls: Cherokee upends C.H. East

Christine DiLullo scored three goals as No. 11 seed Cherokee upset sixth-seeded Cherry Hill East, 12-9, Friday in a first-round game in the South Jersey Group 4 girls' lacrosse tournament.

Christine DiLullo scored three goals as No. 11 seed Cherokee upset sixth-seeded Cherry Hill East, 12-9, Friday in a first-round game in the South Jersey Group 4 girls' lacrosse tournament.

Jenna Castiglia and Michelle Tegethoff each added two goals for the Chiefs. Caitlin Delaney had six goals for the Cougars.

Also in Group 4 first-round games:

Alex Hlesciak scored seven goals, and fifth seed Rancocas Valley defeated West Windsor-Plainsboro South, 19-13. Mackenzie Hlesciak (four) and Meghan McCormick (two) combined for six goals for the Red Devils.

Caroline Shinske and Shannon Nugent each had three goals as No. 1 seed Shawnee blanked No. 16 Monroe Township, 17-0. Liza Barr and Erin Smith contributed two goals apiece for the Renegades.

South Jersey Group 2. Rachel Ceplo and Mackenzie Goark each scored four goals as No. 9 seed Delran downed eighth-seeded Barnegat, 21-11, in a first-round game. Hannah Hamblin and Leah Ross contributed three goals apiece for the Bears.

In other first-round action, Alex Fitzpatrick scored nine goals to lead 10th-seeded Northern Burlington over No. 7 seed Red Bank, 16-10.

The Greyhounds also received contributions from Nikki Kotelnicki and Krista Leili-Marrazzo, who each chipped in two goals, and goalie Samantha Hirthler, who stopped 10 shots.

Softball

Carly Linus went 3 for 3 with two runs scored to help host Buena take down Ocean City, 6-1, in a Cape-Atlantic League National Division game.

Stephanie Walsh had two hits and an RBI for the Chiefs.

Tri-County Classic. Brooke Coleman got the win in the circle and had two doubles and two RBIs at the plate to lead Pennsville over Salem, 10-0. Lauren Miller had two hits for the Rams.

Danica Pratta had two RBIs and scored four runs to lead Penns Grove over Wildwood, 22-4. Lizzie Mason contributed three RBIs for the Red Devils.

Tri-County Royal. Miranda Turner had three hits, two runs, and two RBIs to help send Clearview past Highland, 13-2. Alison Turner pitched a complete game and had eight strikeouts in the victory.

Tri-County Diamond. Annie Murphy had two hits and three RBIs for Deptford in its 11-0 victory over Glassboro. Kelli Whyte also had two hits and drove in two runs for the Spartans.

Nonleague. Janna Gaburo pitched a complete game and struck out five as Schalick downed Gateway, 4-1.

Deidra Turner had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cougars. Alyssa Welsh pitched seven innings and had eight strikeouts in a losing effort.

In other nonleague action:

Megan McCurdy had two hits and two RBIs as Woodstown defeated Delsea, 8-1. Allison Cabo pitched a complete game and struck out three in the victory. Julia Voluntad had two hits and an RBI for the Crusaders.

Brittany Granahan struck out seven and got the win as Maple Shade downed Westampton Tech, 2-1.

Devin Francz had two hits and four RBIs to lead Oakcrest over Bridgeton, 11-6. Jessica Liepe had two hits, and Emily Brown struck out six in the victory. Jenna Montana pitched seven innings and had nine strikeouts for Bridgeton.

Rosie LaGrotta pitched a shutout to lead Sacred Heart over Gloucester Catholic, 2-0. Danielle Lugo led the Lions at the plate with two hits, and Kayla Smith and Lindsay Geier knocked in the only runs of the game. Angela Antonini had two hits for the Rams.
