Sat. S.J. boys and girls: Shinn sets school mark

Ryan Shinn entered Northern Burlington baseball lore in style Saturday, hitting his school-record eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the top-seeded Greyhounds a thrilling, 6-5 win over No. 9 Hightstown in the Central Jersey Group 3 quarterfinals.

South Jersey Group 2. Sterling's Donovan Casey pitched a nine-inning shutout against Manchester Township, and Ryan Smith's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth was all the second-seeded Silver Knights needed in a 1-0 quarterfinal victory.

Softball

Sophomore infielder Brandi Chester rocketed the ball all over the field for GCIT in the top-seeded Cheetahs' 7-3 win in a South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinal against eighth-seeded Cumberland. Chester went 4 for 4 with two triples and a double and scored four runs.
