Cherokee seniors Rob Agnoni, Matt Stickney, and Anthony Gambone have been the backbone of one of South Jersey's best defenses.
They will face a big challenge Friday night against one of South Jersey's best offenses.
"These are the kinds of games we love to play," Stickney said of the West Jersey Football League American Division matchup between host Cherokee (4-1), the No. 5 team in The Inquirer's South Jersey rankings, and No. 2 Eastern (6-0).
With Stickney at cornerback and Agnoni and Gambone at safety, Cherokee has allowed just 26 points this season. The Chiefs have shut out their last two opponents.
"We're playing with so much confidence right now," Gambone said. "We've got a lot of older guys who can make plays."
Eastern is averaging 40 points per game behind senior quarterback Tom Flacco, who has passed for 1,444 yards and 12 touchdowns and run for 487 yards and nine TDs.
"Flacco is a dominant quarterback," Agnoni said. "We've got a great game plan. We have to follow it."
