Paul VI's Moore-Green commits to Army

Stefone Moore-Green is excited about playing football for Army, especially in that big game every season against Navy. But sports wasn't the driving force in the Paul VI senior's decision to attend the United States Military Academy.

Stefone Moore-Green is excited about playing football for Army, especially in that big game every season against Navy.

But sports wasn't the driving force in the Paul VI senior's decision to attend the United States Military Academy.

"To be honest, it was way besides sports," said Moore-Green, who committed to Army earlier this week. "It was everything else that comes with going there. It was the opportunity to go there and be set for life."

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound Moore-Green was recruited as a slotback and return man, according to Paul VI coach John Doherty.

Moore-Green, who lives in Sicklerville, has the "mental toughness" to handle the rigors of a military academy, Doherty said.

"Stefone can handle it," Doherty said. "He won't have a problem dealing with that."

Moore-Green said he visited West Point this summer with teammates Lonnie Moore and Matt Vitale.

"It was part history museum, part college," Moore-Green said. "The facilities are first-rate. It's a great place."

Moore-Green said he has been in contact with 2015 Kingsway graduate Denzell Polk, a freshman football player at Navy.

"He told me the military academies are the real deal," Moore-Green said. "I'm looking forward to it."

Moore-Green said he "never envisioned" himself attending a military academy until he began to be recruited by Army.

"But I'm the type of guy who likes a challenge and it will be a challenge," Moore-Green said.

Moore-Green was a first-team all-conference selection in the West Jersey Football League's Constitution Division as a junior. He caught 20 passes for 231 yards and five touchdowns and ran 58 times for 563 yards (9.7 average) and four touchdowns.

With his college decision behind him, Moore-Green wants to focus on his final football season for Paul VI.

"I just want to help us win games," Moore-Green said.
