Because it's located on a rise above Farnham Park, Camden High School has always been known as "The Castle on the Hill."

On Monday night, Corey Greer took a big step toward becoming the prince of his new city.

The sophomore who transferred to Camden after spending his freshman year at Middle Township looked right at home in the South Jersey Group 2 championship game before a capacity crowd in Clarence Turner Gymnasium.

The 6-foot-1 Greer scored 27 points and played a nearly flawless floor game in Camden's 82-54 victory over Medford Tech.

"That kid," Medford Tech coach Nick Powell said, "knows how to play."

Sophomore forward Myles Thompson scored 18 and senior forward Jamal Holloway added 14 for top-seeded Camden (25-5), which won its fifth straight sectional title and 48th overall.

Greer knows Camden's history.

"They've won like 50 of them," Greer said of sectional titles. "It's not even a big deal to them. It's all about winning a state title."

Camden will attempt to take its next step toward that elusive 12th state title in Wednesday's state semifinals against Central Jersey champion Bordentown at Perth Amboy.

"That's been our goal all year," Thompson said. "This is nice, but we want to win it all."

Greer said he had a "connection with Camden basketball" as a youngster because his father, former Middle Township and Florida State star Lamarr Greer, was friendly with Camden legends such as Dajuan Wagner and Arthur Barclay.

"My dad would come up here to play or they would come down," Corey Greer said. "I spent a lot of time in Camden, even though I lived far away. I knew about Camden's tradition."

Camden coach John Valore said Greer has "come a long way" during his first season with the Panthers.

"He's something special," Valore said. "With the schedule we play, with the experiences he's gained, he's gotten better and better."
