Overbrook pulls away in football

Overbrook defeated visiting Manchester Township, 46-20, in a nonleague football game. Up by just six at the half, the Rams dominated the second half, scoring 33 points.

Overbrook's Marques DeShields scored six rushing touchdowns.

Elsewhere in nonleague action:

Host Burlington City defeated New Providence, 12-10. The Blue Devils came back in the second half from a four-point deficit to win the game. Chris Fryar had a 20-yard run to put Burlington City on the board. Dion Butler scored the winning touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Eric Best.

Gloucester Catholic defeated visiting Glassboro, 11-6. Chris Garwood completed 7 of his 13 attempts for 100 yards and a touchdown pass to Colin Corrado. Corrado had 28 carries for 128 yards and two receptions for 39 yards.

South Group 2 first round. Cedar Creek defeated host Middle Township, 36-14. Bo Melton scored three touchdowns on a 34-yard pass reception, a 22-yard run, and a 26-yard pass reception for the Pirates. Cedar Creek's Jesse Milza threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nazir Chapman in addition to the two he threw to Melton.

Cross-Country

Some of the best runners met at Holmdel for the New Jersey State Cross-Country Group Championships. In Group 1, Annika Merkh of Haddon Township placed first for the girls with a time of 20 minutes, 8 seconds and Buena's Alana Sasdelli finished second at 20:29.

In Group 2, Michael Ungvarsky of Cinnaminson finished first at 15:58 while Lower Cape May's Mark Nelson finished in 16:45 for 10th for the boys. For the girls, Briana Gess of Haddonfield finished first in 18:43.

Alyssa Aldridge finished in 18:07 to take first for the girls in Group 3.

Cherry Hill East's Grace Yoon was second for the girls in Group 4 at 18:28 followed by Kingsway's Rachel Vick with a time of 18:29.

In Non-Public B, Bishop Eustace's Connor Melko finished third for the boys in 16:54, Nick Hutchison finished in 17:05 for sixth and Michael Dziuba took 10th in 17:34.
