Tuesday's South Jersey roundup: Moorestown Friends defeats Gill St. Bernard's in semifinals

Highlights from Tuesday's South Jersey playoff action.

No. 5 Moorestown Friends upset top-seeded Gill St. Bernard's, 4-2, in Tuesday afternoon's boys' soccer South Non-Public B semifinals. Gill St. Bernard's Tyler Merna was the first to score, but Brian Cronk dribbled past two defenders and passed the ball to Evan Schlotterbeck to tie up the game before the end of the half. Astin Galanis scored in the second half to put the Foxes ahead and was assisted by Cronk 20 minutes later for a 3-1 lead. Schlotterbeck scored unassisted in the Foxes' final goal of the game a minute after Galanis. Jordan Canica of Gill St. Bernard's responded with a goal, but it wouldn't be enough. Teddy Kinzler made two saves in the win.

Second seed Bishop Eustace defeated No. 3 St. Augustine in penalty kicks in the South Non-Public A semifinals. Jake Ottinger scored for St. Augustine to put them ahead at the half, 1-0. Andrew Pietrangelo responded in the second half with a goal assisted by his brother, Alex Pietrangelo. Zach Young made four saves for the Crusaders. Bishop Eustace outscored the Hermits, 4-2, in penalty kicks.

No. 2 Haddonfield defeated No. 3 West Deptford, 3-0, in the South Group Two semifinals. Finn Miller made seven saves for the shutout. Jack Dugan scored once and had an assist. Steve DiTomaso and Will Sabia both scored for the Bulldawgs, while Sam DeCencio had two assists.

Top-seeded Glassboro defeated No. 5 Haddon Heights, 2-0, in the South Group One semifinals. Ian Carter and Sinan Tuzcu both scored for the Bulldogs. Aaron Harrison had an assist and Griffin Rogers made four saves.

Fifth-seeded Moorestown outscored No. 1 Ocean Township, 4-3, in penalty kicks in the Central Group Three semifinals. The score remained 1-1 after two scoreless overtime periods to force the shootout. Coby Gluck was assisted by max Haller to score Moorestown's goal.

Eleven-seeded New Egypt was defeated by No. 2 Asbury Park in penalty kicks in Central Group One semifinals. The Warriors came back from a 2-1 deficit at the half to send the game to overtime. Alex Pavljuk and Chase Semperive made the goals, but it wasn't enough. After Will Levorse made four saves for the Warriors, Asbury Park outscored New Egypt 4-2.

Girls’ Soccer

No. 5 Our Lady of Mercy fell to No. 1 Rutgers Prep, 2-0, in the South Non-Public B semifinals. Micah Livingston and Isabella Pellecchia found the back of the net to send Rutgers Prep to the finals.
