Saturday's Pennsylvania roundup: Penn Charter explodes in second half to defeat Episcopal Academy

Edward Saydee carried 23 times for 141 yards Saturday as Penn Charter defeated Episcopal Academy, 42-17. Saydee's 38-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave the Quakers a four point lead they wouldn't relinquish. John Washington caught touchdown passes of 72 and 36 yards from Will Samuel. Washington finished the game with 122 yards on four receptions, and added a rushing touchdown in a 21-point fourth quarter.

Myles Hugee had six receptions for 106 yards and the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter as Springside Chestnut Hill edged Haverford, 24-20. Nick Logue scored on two short yardage runs for the Blue Devils. Nate Whitaker took a swing pass 90 yards for a touchdown from Patrick Toal in a losing effort.

Field Hockey

Erin Zielinski paced Villa Maria with two goals as the Hurricans beat Mount St. Joseph, 5-1, to win the District 1 Class 2A final. Lindsay Dickinson, Erin Finley and, Hannah Miller eached chipped in a goal. Adele Iacobucci distributed two assists for the victors.

Downingtown West overcame a one goal halftime deficit thanks to two strikes from Romea Riccardo, to win the District 1 Class 3A title over Conestoga, 3-2. Tatum Johnson contributed a goal for the Whippets while Taylor Orsi had an assist

Boys' Soccer

Daniel Kunzji posted the first goal off a cross from Nick Brison as the No. 13 seed Kennet held on to beat No. 7 seed Central Bucks West, 2-1, to secure District 1 Class 4A third place. David Carbajal extended the Blue Demons' lead by knocking home a rebound after an incredible save from Bucks goalkeeper Brendan Gibbons. Kevin Snavely's goal brought Central Bucks West within one in the second half.

Jacob Zimmerman notched the game-winning goal with 13 minutes, 45 seconds remaining in the first overtime to power Lansdale Catholic over New Hope-Solebury, 3-2, to claim the District 1/12 Class 2A title. Matt McDonald scored two goals for the Crusaders, with the second coming from 30 yards out. Lions' Jake Jaquemot and Nate Bawduniak had a goal apiece to tie the game two different times.

Abhi Joshi and Alex Yang netted a goal apiece to help Lawrenceville win the Mid-Atlantic Prep League title, 2-1, over Hill School. The Blues lost an opportunity in the final minute, when a shot bounced in the box, and was deflected over the crossbar. Euan Forrest scored the lone goal for Hill School.

Girls' Soccer

Christine Cataldo-Smith and Jenna Peters each tallied a goal in Pennsbury's 2-1 triumph over Spring-Ford to win the District 1 Class 4A final. Kelly Franz's goal brought the Rams within one with just over eight minutes remaining in the game.

Michaela Boyd blasted goals from 25 and 30 yards out to lift Neshaminy over Owen J. Roberts, 3-2, for District 1 Class 4A third place. Jackie Ziegler scored on a header set up by Genna Obringer to open the scoring for the victors.
