Thurs. Pa. boys' roundup: McDevitt earns District 12 crown

Bishop McDevitt used seven pins to easily knock off visiting Franklin Towne Charter, 54-21, on Thursday night in the District 12 Class AA team wrestling championship.

It's the first District 12 title in any sport for Bishop McDevitt.

The Lancers did not win any match by decision, as each of their nine wins came by forfeit or fall.

Sophomore Michael Cantwell started the match at 126 pounds with a pin in 2 minutes, 15 seconds over Franklin Towne's Elias Rosa. The Lancers also received pins from Owen Barnes (132 pounds), Chris Davis (160), Martin Stanton (170), Curtis Brooks (195), Joshua Velez-Arce (106), and Tyler Medina (113).

Velez-Arce recorded his pin in just 10 seconds. Brooks, a senior, captured his 23d win of the season and 12th by pin. He won just five matches last year.

Savon Goodman scored a game-high 30 points and host Constitution topped Math, Civics & Sciences, 76-66, in overtime and captured the No. 1 seed in Public League Division A playoffs.

Goodman scored 26 points after halftime, including four in OT. Malik Starkes had 25 points to lead the Mighty Elephants, who enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed.

Also in the Public League, senior guard Demetrius Davenport became the first Palumbo player to reach 1,000 career points as the host Griffins downed FitzSimons, 102-68.

He reached the mark with a layup in the fourth quarter and dropped in a school-record 52 points. Davenport needed just three seasons to score 1,000, as he didn't play his freshman year.

Jamier Cross set a school-record with 39 points as Carroll fell at Science Leadership, 72-65. Nadif Bracey led SLA with 24 points.

Behind Maurice Watson's 13 points in the fourth quarter, Boys' Latin rallied to top University City, 82-77. The Warriors trailed by four with 3 minutes left before clawing back. Watson finished with a game-high 36 points.

Sibley Robinson grabbed six rebounds and Tajhere McCall dished out 11 assists as Engineering & Science downed visiting GAMP, 54-34.

Del-Val. Chester won its 45th straight game as the host Clippers rolled over Penn Wood, 80-57. The Clippers, ranked No. 4 in the nation by USA Today, were led by Rondae Jefferson's five rebounds, three assists, and 13 points.

Senior forward Raheem Harvey pulled down 12 rebounds to help lift Glen Mills over visiting Interboro, 51-35.

Ches-Mont. Gary Jay scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter as Downingtown East pulled away at Avon Grove, 57-50.

Tri-County. Tom Lubowicki drove the length of the court and hit a layup with 1.2 seconds left as Del-Val Friends turned away visiting Barrack Hebrew, 39-38. Lubowicki had 10 boards and scored 15 of his game-high 18 pointsin the second half.

Nizar Kapic knocked down four threes to trigger Perkiomen School's 68-46 win over visiting Collegium Charter, 68-46.

Bicentennial. Ryan Rigby's put-back at the buzzer clinched a 35-33 OT win for Bristol at Jenkintown. Rigby scored seven of his nine points after halftime.

Jenkintown's Matt Dawson sent the game into OT on a runner with 17 seconds left. He had a game-high 11 points.

Penn-Jersey. Girard College clinched a spot in the league title game by downing visiting Pine Forge, 64-50. Tyreek Peeples had 24 points and six assists.

Nonleague. Mike Hutson scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the first half and Phil-Mont Christian easily rolled at Christian Academy, 64-39. The Falcons led by 21 points at the half.

Zach Dolton added 16 points thanks to four three-pointers.
