Tues. Pa. field hockey roundup: Parsons helps Villa Maria move on

Meghan Murphy, a senior, had tied the score earlier in the second half after Palmyra took a one-goal lead with a penalty stroke.

Villa's Katie Mooney added a first-half goal.

The Hurricanes entered the state tournament as the top seed from District 1. The district title was Villa's sixth straight.

Selinsgrove 3, Upper Perkiomen 2 - Casey Umstead scored twice as Upper Perkiomen fell to Selinsgrove at Bucknell University.

Devon Kriebel contributed an assist and a key defensive save. Goalie Kate Lederer turned away four shots.

Upper Perkiomen entered the tournament as the second seed from District 1, and Selinsgrove was the No. 1 seed from District 4.

PIAA Class AAA

Emilee Ehret's goal wasn't enough to propel Mount St. Joseph past Emmaus, as the Magic fell, 3-1, at Whitehall.

Ehret, a junior bound for Penn State, scored with 10 minutes left in the first half to cut the Emmaus lead to one.

Teresa Carotenuto scored a pair of goals to lead Emmaus. Her score late in the second half secured the win.

Mount St. Joseph fell in the quarterfinals of the District 1 tournament before rallying to finish fifth and secure a berth in the state playoffs. Emmaus entered the state playoffs as the top seed from District 11.

Pa. Independent Schools

Cheyanne Asplundh scored in the second half to lift Academy of the New Church over Springside Chestnut Hill, 1-0, in the opening round of the state tournament.

The junior forward stood near the right post before deflecting in a pass from Nicole King for the winner. Michelle Bedford posted two saves for the shutout.

Hill School 2, Germantown Academy 0 - The Blues scored twice in the second half to knock off visiting Germantown Academy in a quarterfinal.

Taylor Hendrickson scored midway through the half, assisted by Amanda Willet and Alex Lange. Julia Donald scored an unassisted goal with 3 minutes left.
