Max Norris finished in the midst of a pack of runners Saturday afternoon at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Diego.

The Harriton senior navigated the course in 15 minutes, 41 seconds for 17th place. He was one of 10 runners to finish between 15:40 and 15:45.

Shawn Wilson of Cherokee (N.J.) finished 23d in 15:45. Ed Cheserek of St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.) eased to a first-place finish in 14:59.

Norris was the first Harriton runner to qualify for the national championship race. He was able to rebound from a hip injury that sidelined him from January to August.

Norris' fourth-place finish at the state meet in November was the best in school history, and he is also a two-time Central League champion.
