Swenson, Central race to Public titles

Amy Hicks blazed to the 100-meter title as Swenson won seven of the 10 track events to capture the Public League girls' track and field title Thursday afternoon at Northeast.

Amy Hicks blazed to the 100-meter title as Swenson won seven of the 10 track events to capture the Public League girls' track and field title Thursday afternoon at Northeast.

In the boys' meet, Central's Barren McCoy captured the 800 and teammate Samuel Reid won the shot put to help the Lancers roll to the team title.

Hicks won the girls' 100 in 12.03 seconds, as she edged teammate Jameela Muhammad by .39 of a second. Swenson's Amani Neshmith pulled into fourth.

Swenson's Imani Harris-Quillen won the 200, Tichina Rhodes took the 400, Markeeta Thomas grabbed the 100 and 300 hurdles, and the Lions triumphed in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Thomas, Hicks, and Harris-Quillen were joined by Jameela Muhammad on the 100 relay. Muhammad, Rhodes, Harris-Quillen, and Sydney Coffee ran the 400 relay.

Central's Lucy Van Kleunen won the 800 and 1,600 as the Lancers finished in second place.

Shardae Harrell, Erin Allen, Shayla Rivers, and Sakinah Bolen of Paul Robeson teamed to win the 4x800 relay.

Zhane Stones of High School of the Future captured the shot put, the only field event on the third day of the championships.

In the boys' 800, McCoy edged his teammate Chris Jones by less than a second.

Robert McGarry of Masterman won the 1,600, as he held off a charging Adam Stangler of Franklin Towne Charter.

Niager Mathis of Swenson won the 100, 200, and 400. He held off West Philadelphia's Banford Poole in both the 100 and 200.

Imhotep Charter's Donaldo Benjamin won the 110 and 300 hurdles and also started the first-place 4x400 relay team.

He was joined by Brandon Smith, Robert Allen, and James Keith. Smith and Benjamin teamed with Fulani Freeman and football standout Deandre Scott to finish second in the 4x100.

Masterman's Shawn Eapen, Kai Heen, Julian Rosessler, and Julian Degroot-Lutzner captured the 4x800 relay.

Elijah Elliott, Fulani Freeman, Daquan Freeman, and Nydair Rouse of Simon Gratz won the 4x100.
