Pa. Girls: Abbott posts 100th strikeout in Villa Maria victory

Freshman Maddi Abbott struck out nine batters and recorded her 100th strikeout of the season on Wednesday afternoon to lead Villa Maria past host Mount St. Joseph, 7-0, in a Catholic Academies softball game.

Freshman Maddi Abbott struck out nine batters and recorded her 100th strikeout of the season on Wednesday afternoon to lead Villa Maria past host Mount St. Joseph, 7-0, in a Catholic Academies softball game.

She allowed just three hits and walked one in seven innings. She has 102 strikeouts this season.

Ches-Mont. Brigette Nordberg had just one hit, but it was a two-run double in the third to key Downingtown East's 4-2 win at Bishop Shanahan. Kristen Owens added a pair of hits and a run scored. Sara Ercolani stroked a double, scored once and drove in a run.

Suburban One. Susan JanFrancisco went 3 for 4, scored twice and drove in three runs as Plymouth Whitemarsh cruised at Upper Dublin, 13-7.

Inter-Ac. Lauren Fortunato slid home in the fifth inning to complete an inside-the-park grand slam as Agnes Irwin rocked visiting Notre Dame, 11-1. Katie Wenger, a junior righty, struck out six in six innings to record the win.

Nonleague. Izzy Schaefer posted the win and Kyla Crombie hit a double to lead Radnor past host Nazareth Academy, 3-0.

Nicole Eberhard, a sophomore, struck out six batters and scattered three hits to lead St. Basil over host Cheltenham, 3-1. Abby Carter added a pair of hits, one run and an RBI.

Sophomore Alex Viscusi went 3 for 3, drove in four runs on a pair of doubles and picked up the win as Episcopal Academy eased past host Lawrenceville, 12-1. The righty pitched five innings, struck out nine and allowed three hits.

Amanda Wolfgang hit a game-tying triple and Gina Schnecker followed with a walk-off single as Central Bucks West downed Norristown, 4-3.

Stacey MacArthur hit three homers as Delco Christian cruised past host Academy Park, 14-1. The senior shortstop went 3 for 3 with seven RBIs and hit a grand slam in the third. Abby Butler struck out nine for the win.

Jenna Moriarty hit a two-run, pinch-hit double in the sixth inning to highlight Springside Chestnut Hill's 6-5 win at Gwynedd Mercy. Michelle Cybularz added a pair of hits and a two-run triple in the sixth, as SCH rallied for six runs in the inning.

Lacrosse

Hanna Bogorowski scored four times and added four assists as Germantown Academy topped host Lawrenceville School, 18-12.

Caroline Haynie scored twice and assisted on five goals. Allie Carrigan sealed the win with 14 saves.
