Conestoga three-peats in tennis

The Conestoga boys' tennis team won its third consecutive PIAA Class AAA state championship Saturday in the team tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.

The Conestoga boys' tennis team won its third consecutive PIAA Class AAA state championship Saturday in the team tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Conestoga defeated Shady Side Academy in the title game for the second straight year, this time by 4-1.

Conestoga's seniors will end their careers with impressive resumés. In four years, the Pioneers have won three state titles, three Central League championships, and three District 1 titles.

"It has been an unbelievable four years for these seniors," Pioneers cocoach Blake Stabert said. "They helped put Conestoga tennis back on the map. We're state champs, and we play the right way."

Conestoga won all three singles matches and the first doubles match. Jason Sutker won at first singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Eric Yen clinched the win for Conestoga with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles.
