The Haverford School rode a late-season hot streak all the way to an Independent Schools baseball championship Sunday, beating Malvern Prep, 7-3, at Upper Perkiomen.

After starting the season 9-9, Haverford School won 16 of its final 17 games.

"It's very satisfying for the seniors to finish the way they did and win a championship," Haverford School manager Robert Castell said.

In the final against the defending champion, Malvern Prep, Kevin McGowan doubled and knocked in a pair of runs.

Drew Fields also knocked in two runs, on two hits.

Haverford School won its last Independent Schools championship in 2011.

Earlier in the afternoon, Haverford School cruised past Mercersburg Academy, 12-2, in the semifinals.

McGowan had a two-run double and Matt Galetta, who pitched two shutout innings to earn the save in the final, gave up two runs on five hits in five innings to earn the win.
