Imhotep's Scott makes oral commitment to play at Arizona State
After getting more than 30 offers, Deandre Scott picks Sun Devils, citing friendship with current wideout Jaelen Strong.

PERHAPS the city's highest-rated football recruit in the current senior class, Imhotep Charter's Deandre Scott announced last night that he orally committed to Arizona State University.
Scott, a 5-8, 180-pound safety, said he received offers from more than 30 schools, including Miami, Nebraska and South Carolina.
He chose the school without an official visit, in part, because of his relationship with current Sun Devils wideout and former West Catholic standout Jaelen Strong.
He made the announcement via Twitter and cited a trust with ASU co-defensive coordinator Chris Ball, and potential roster room, with graduating senior defensive backs.
"I'm not going to be alone," Scott said in a telephone interview last night. "And for the coaches to be 100 percent committed to me, I feel like they will always have my back."
Imhotep head coach Albie Crosby was the offensive coordinator and wide receivers' coach for Strong at West Catholic.
"I think they'll do outstanding," he said. "Two different sides of the ball, but I think having that relationship and being out there together, they'll have a comfort zone."
The 11-1 Panthers throttled West Catholic, 48-8, last week to win the Class AA City Championship.
"I'm beyond excited," Scott said. "I got it over with. I feel like I'm making the right decision, and now I can just focus on schoolwork, SAT scores and going to states."
