3 city schools in PIAA quarterfinals

St. Joseph's Prep, Wood and Imhotep set for games this week

THREE city-league schools will continue their respective marches toward Hershey in the PIAA quarterfinals.

In AAAA action, St. Joseph's Prep will take on Parkland, Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem SD Stadium. The Hawks, Catholic League kings, are coming off a 24-20 setback against Malvern last week. However, SJP advanced by toppling Frankford, 10-7, on Nov. 16 for the city title. Junior quarterback Jack Clements might have the reins again if senior starter Chris Martin is still out with a knee injury. On the season, Prep is led in rushing by Olamide Zaccheaus' 748 yards and 11 scores. Ryan McNulty (senior, linebacker) is the defensive catalyst.

Archbishop Wood will face Academy Park in a AAA contest, at 7 p.m. Friday at Northeast High's Charles Martin Memorial Field. The Vikings, top dogs from Catholic League AAA, destroyed Martin Luther King, 52-8, back on Nov. 16 and have not played since. In fact, with the score 52-0 at halftime, most starters sat the second half. Juniors Jarrett McClenton (running back) and Tom Garlick (QB) pace the offense, while fellow junior lineman Jake Cooper anchors the defense.

Imhotep Charter will meet Catasauqua, at 1 p.m. Saturday at Germantown's Ben Johnston Memorial Field. The Panthers have been on hold since a 48-8 triumph against West Catholic Nov. 15. They are also slated to tangle with MLK at 10:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving. The Panthers, Public League AAA champions, are led offensively by All-Pub rusher Nasir Bonner and QB Andre Dreuitt. Defensively, free safety Deandre Scott, a recent Arizona State verbal commit, sets the tone.
