Pa. Boys: Conwell-Egan boys win tournament

The best start in the history of the Conwell-Egan boys' basketball program now includes a championship. The Eagles blitzed host Lower Moreland, 53-33, to claim the title of the Huntington Valley/Churchville Rotary Tournament on Saturday night.

Stevie Jordan scored 16 points and had six rebounds. LaPri Pace added 10 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Chase Kumor scored 12 points.

The Eagles are 9-0 for the first time.

John Boback scored 20, and Sam Bair added 17 points to lead Calvary Christian past Northeast, 69-65, in the third-place game.

William Allen Holiday. Springfield (Delco) overcame a 17-point deficit to beat host William Allen, 50-48, in overtime for the championship. Sean Carpenter's put-back tied the game with 12 seconds left. Kevin McCormick (10 points) hit a three-pointer early in overtime, and the Cougars never trailed in the period. He scored 8 of his 10 in the fourth and overtime.

Great Valley Christmas Classic. Mikal Bridges scored 16 points, Ricky McQuay scored 12, and Great Valley opened up a 21-point lead at the half and eased to a 65-39 win over Upper Dublin.

Marple Newtown. Bishop Shanahan logged assists on 19 of its 27 field goals in a 65-45 championship win over Phoenixville. MVP Mike Booth scored 17 and Doug Costin had 18.

In the consolation game, Tim MacNeal hit a three-pointer from the left corner with two seconds left to give Marple Newtown a 60-57 win. Jake McGee led the Tigers with 21, and Nick Giordano scored 19.

State College. Four Upper Darby players reached double digits, and the Royals claimed the title with a 57-40 triumph over Bethlehem Freedom. Quadir Rice scored 15, and Isheem Adams and Torey Green both had 11.

Jameer Nelson/Pete Nelson Classic. Sammy Foreman scored 18 points and had five assists, four rebounds and three steals to lead Martin Luther King past Susquehanna Township, 54-41, at Widener. Jahmir Taylor picked up 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Tyrell Sturdivant's 24 points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks helped Chester to a 58-52 triumph over Atlantic City.

St. Augustine Classic. Chuck Champion sank five three-pointers en route to 19 points, and Jalen Herdsman had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead La Salle past Wildwood Catholic, 45-37, in Richland, N.J.

Boyertown Bear Classic. Tyler Bauman's 34 points carried Boyertown to a 76-60 win over Governor Mifflin in the consolation game.

Football

Episcopal Academy's Terrell Smith, a quick-footed defensive back, has committed to play college football at Brown.

Smith, who missed all but two games last season with a lacerated liver, chose Brown over Penn and Princeton.
