After taking a leave of absence last season because of a family health issue, Archbishop Wood girls' basketball coach Jim Ricci has resigned.

Ricci won three straight PIAA Class AAA state championships beginning in 2010. The Vikings were coached this past season by John Gallagher, Ricci's longtime assistant. They lost in the Catholic League final to Neumann-Goretti and finished as District 12 Class AAA champions.

The head coaching position has been posted, and applicants have until April 29 to apply. Gallagher has applied.

"We wish him good luck," Wood athletic director Joe Sette said of Ricci. "He was a great coach for us and a historic coach."
