Pa. Boys: Thurs. Pa. boys: Perkiomen's Baker earns 400th win

Ken Baker calls it the "one-pitch Panther" approach. It is the way the Perkiomen School baseball coach encourages his team to play: by understanding that winning is a by-product of doing many little things correctly throughout the game.

It is the way the Perkiomen School baseball coach encourages his team to play: by understanding that winning is a by-product of doing many little things correctly throughout the game.

Over Baker's 24 seasons as head coach, all those little things have piled up into one pretty big number.

An 8-0 win over visiting Barrack Hebrew on Thursday was the 400th victory of his coaching career.

"It was a bit of a milestone for me," the understated Baker said.

Baker's Panthers have won 19 consecutive Tri-County League championships. Baker also has been the school's athletic director since 1976.

There was little doubt about Thursday's game. Joey Pena hit a leadoff home run in a three-run first inning. Angel Lopez went 3 for 3 with a triple.

Central. Justin Goerlach drove in three runs to power Ridley to an 8-7 victory at Upper Darby. Goerlach went 2 for 2 and scored twice. Pat O'Neill hit a two-run double in the sixth to give Ridley a three-run lead.

Nick Giordano and Eric Tannenbaum homered, and Marple Newtown won at Springfield (Delco), 8-4. Mike White doubled twice.

Bicentennial Independence. Jack Dougherty and Jake Vesling combined on a one-hitter, striking out eight in a 1-0 win over visiting Devon Prep.

Jordan Pocrass went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Lower Moreland won at Bristol, 5-4.

Del-Val. Jason Lincoln struck out nine in a two-hitter, and Interboro cruised past visiting Penn Wood, 11-1. Lincoln, a sophomore, is 5-0.

Nonleague. Chase Thomas went 3 for 4 with two runs scored as Octorara topped host Avon Grove, 6-4. Jackson Ray struck out nine.

Christian Geil went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Calvary Christian cruised at Delco Christian, 10-0. Nolan Kelly struck out six in five innings.

Lacrosse

Will Manganiello and Robert Logan each scored twice, and Penncrest took a major step toward the Central League title with a 7-5 defeat of visiting Radnor.

Dylan Protesto went 11 of 16 on faceoffs and scored a goal. Dylan McCleaft made 15 saves.

Also in the Central, Luke Charamella and Mike Gerzabek each scored three times to lead Springfield (Delco) to a 12-7 win at Lower Merion.

Ches-Mont National. Dylan Alderman's four goals paced Bishop Shanahan to a 10-7 win over visiting Avon Grove.
