Avon Grove edges Henderson, 3-2

Avon Grove only had three hits but turned them into just enough offense to earn a 3-2 home win Monday against West Chester Henderson in a Ches-Mont National baseball matchup.

John D'Aquanno knocked in a run in the sixth, then grounded a single through the left side in the seventh to plate the winning run.

Joe Thompson gave up one hit in four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Pioneer Athletic. After Spring-Ford scored three in the top of the seventh, Pope John Paul II came back with three of its own to take a 5-4 win at Spring-Ford in the conference semifinals. Sean Williamson delivered a walk-off, two-run single to seal the win for Pope John Paul II, which was the home team.

In the other semifinal at Spring-Ford, Austin Bregman raced home and avoided a tag at the plate on Glenn Seymour's seventh-inning sacrifice fly to give Methacton a 3-2 win over Boyertown.

Suburban One Continental. Carter Usowski doubled and knocked in two runs in Central Bucks East's 3-2 win over visiting Souderton.

Central. Brendan Little struck out 10 of the 11 batters he faced in relief and picked up the win in Conestoga's 4-2 victory at Haverford High.

Nonleague. Dylan Nicklas tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts in Great Valley's 5-0 home win over Bishop Shanahan.

Softball

After Alex Quigley received recognition and thanks on senior day, the upperclassmen gave back with a walk-off single in the eighth inning in Notre Dame's 1-0 home win over Germantown Academy.

Quigley had two hits on the day.

Catholic Academies. Merion Mercy's Julia Brenner ripped a line drive to left field to score Cathy Gormley in the eighth inning and pick up a 6-5 win over visiting Villa Maria. Gormley had a grand slam in the first inning.

Central. Kelsey Collevecchio had three hits, including a double, in Ridley's 6-0 win at Garnet Valley.

Nonleague. Courtney Flach had three hits, including the game-winning single to right-center field in the sixth inning, in Downingtown East's 3-2 win over visiting West Chester Rustin.

Boys' Lacrosse

Max Derham buried five goals in Germantown Academy's 14-7 win against visiting Westtown in the first round of the Inter-Ac Invitational.

Mike Brown scored five goals and had two assists to lead Springside Chestnut Hill to a home win over Academy of the New Church.
