On an especially humid night when penalty flags were a regular sight from the get-go, Coatesville and Central Bucks South delivered what many expected in the nonleague football game - back-and-forth scoring.
The visiting Red Raiders did most of the damage, spurred by junior quarterback Jordan Young and a speedy corps of receivers, and found the end zone seven times to triumph, 47-34, in a marathon Friday night in Warrington.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Young completed 22 of 29 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns. A second-year starter, he also carried the ball 16 times for 92 yards and a pair of scores.
In producing 40-plus points for the second straight week, Coatesville, ranked No. 7 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer, improved to 2-0. Matt Ortega's squad had opened the season with a 45-19 home romp over Martin Luther King.
Young connected with wide receiver James Clark for two touchdowns. He also hooked up with tailback Jalen Hudson for a TD.
Early in the third quarter, Clark turned a swing pass from Young into a 36-yard TD that put the Red Raiders in front, 33-27.
The second of three straight scores was Ronnel Knight's 2-yard run late in the third quarter. That was followed, early in the fourth, by Hudson's 25-yard catch-and-dart that increased Coatesville's advantage to 47-27.
Down by 27-20 at intermission, the Titans (1-1) evened things on a 73-yard TD reception that Matt Weeks made after coming out of the backfield.
In the first half, Young completed 10 of 11 throws for 127 yards and a score. He also reached pay dirt on scampers of 14 and 5 yards.
The Red Raiders, who handed C.B. South a 46-13 defeat last season, were led on defense by end Amir Ealey, linebacker Stephen Pawling, and back Ricky Southcott. The unit forced five turnovers.
C.B. South's Josh Adams, an electrifying senior tailback and Notre Dame recruit, carried 12 times for 136 yards and two first-half TDs. He scored on jaunts of 67 and 42 yards.
For the Titans, senior QB Kevin Witchey delivered three TD passes. In the opening 24 minutes, he completed 8 of 12 throws for 105 yards.
