Tues. Pa. boys and girls: Germantown Friends rolls

For the first time in 25 years, Germantown Friends defeated Penn Charter in boys' basketball. Andrew Aldridge scored 16 points and Ray Leon added 15 as the Tigers defeated the visitors, 59-39, Tuesday. Both players also pulled down eight rebounds.

"I think it's great for the program," Germantown Friends coach Shawn Werdt said. "I feel the culture of the program is going in the right direction."

Also in nonleague action:

Friends' Central senior guard Jonathan Lawton scored his 1,000th point in the Phoenix's 74-46 triumph over visiting Springside Chestnut Hill. Lawton, who entered the game needing 28 points for the milestone, finished with 29.

Sophomore Nick Aikakos had 27 points and eight rebounds to pace host Episcopal Academy over Abington Friends, 65-29. Matt Woods added 17 points for the Churchmen.

Girls' Basketball

Lizzie Becker scored 12 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter and went 5 for 5 from the line down the stretch to help visiting Germantown Friends edge Collegium Charter, 38-35, in nonleague action.

Also in nonleague play:

Hannah Fox tallied 20 points and Ayanna Matthews had 16 in Penn Charter's 61-42 win at Friends' Central.

Vasnema Evans scored 10 points for host Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in an 18-10 win over New York School for the Deaf.

Wrestling

Springside Chestnut Hill earned its first dual-meet victory in two years, knocking off visiting Academy of the New Church, 40-39. Jackson Bistrong and Desmond Jackson had first-period pins for the Blue Devils.
