Pa. Girls: West Catholic rallies past Chichester

It looked as if Thursday was going to mark the start of another losing streak for West Catholic. Instead, four days after winning for the first time in 29 games, the Burrs rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit and defeated Chichester, 40-39, in a nonleague basketball game.

Akyra Murray scored 15 of her game-high 24 points after halftime and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Kimberly Worrell made a defensive stop with 4.9 seconds remaining, then grabbed the final rebound and dribbled out the win.

The Burrs, who went 0-18 last season, improved to 2-1.

In other nonleague action:

Courtney Redcross scored 18 points as Shipley headed across the street and defeated Baldwin, 42-38. Danielle Hammond had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Baldwin.

Freshman Nya Searight scored 23 points to lead visiting Hallahan past Palumbo, 42-32. Ariana dos Santos paired 15 points with 10 rebounds for Palumbo.

Elodie Furey scored seven of her 13 points during Episcopal Academy's 20-point second quarter in a 47-38 home win over Hun School.

Catholic Academies. Natalie Kucowski recorded a triple double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocks to lead St. Basil to a 38-21 win at Villa Maria.

Suburban One American. Sophomore Ashley Jones scored 11 of her 29 points in the fourth quarter to help visiting Cheltenham clip Upper Merion, 54-46.

Suburban One National. Payton Spadaccino piled up 11 assists and 10 rebounds to lead Council Rock South to a 62-40 victory over visiting Truman.

Ches-Mont National. Emma Bertrando scored 13 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter as West Chester Henderson pulled away at Avon Grove and won, 64-35.

Bicentennial Constitution. Tracey Goodman had 16 points and six blocks to help visiting Phil-Mont Christian beat Bristol, 47-20.

Bicentennial Independence. Toni Suler registered nine blocks and New Hope-Solebury shut down visiting Calvary Christian, 42-14.

Tri-County. Hope Lynch had 14 points, 21 rebounds, and 9 blocks to help host Del-Val Friends dispatch Renaissance Academy, 30-28.
