Carr, Roman win in D.C.

Tony Carr recorded a triple-double as Roman Catholic beat Cardinal Hayes (N.Y.), 60-47, Sunday to win the Gonzaga D.C. Classic for the second time in school history.

Carr racked up 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. He was named tournament MVP.

Manny Taylor put up 15 points. Gemil Holbrook had 12 points. Nazeer Bostick added six points and seven rebounds for Roman Catholic, The Inquirer's No. 2 team in the preseason in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Nonleague. Jahmil Harris totaled 16 points and 14 rebounds and host West Catholic beat West Philadelphia, 68-59, Sunday in a nonleague boys' basketball game. Although the schools are less than half a mile apart, the game was the first meeting between the teams since 1987. Pasquale Dimascio and Jeohnni Moore added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Burrs.

In other nonleague action, Kairi Jones had 16 points and four steals during Cardinal O'Hara's 63-45 home win over Cristo Rey. Tip Swartz put in 14 points, and Liutauras Repsys netted 11 points. Jalil Mosley led Cristo Rey with 16 points.

Jack Henkels dropped in 14 points as St. Joseph's Prep took down visiting Palumbo, 56-20.

Devonta Peterie netted 15 points to lead Phila. Electrical to a 60-54 win over Woodrow Wilson (D.C.) in Baltimore. Jihad Barnes added 12 points, four assists, and four steals.

Bullis Tournament. Jair Bolden drained in 24 points as Westtown beat St. John Catholic (Md.), 63-53, in Potomac, Md. Mohammed Bamba had 15 points, and Najja Hunter scored 11.

Peddie School Invitational. Mike Watkins recorded 28 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 blocks in Phelps' 66-54 victory over Hun School. Watkins made the all-tournament team. Mustapha Traore deposited 14 points.

Girls' Basketball

Ciani Cryor poured in 22 points and No. 1 Neumann-Goretti defeated host St. John's (D.C.), 79-48, at the Tina Thompson She Got Game Classic.

Cryor was named MVP of the game. Sianni Martin had 20 points. A.J. Timbers contributed 13 points.

Neumann-Goretti shot 50 percent from the field.

Also at the She Got Game Classic, Amber Ballinger scored 16 points but No. 4 Bonner-Prendergast lost, 44-40, to Palotti (Md.) at Bell Multicultural (D.C.). Shalina Miller finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Beast of the East. Aubree Brown had a 16-point, 16-rebound double-double, but No. 2 Archbishop Wood fell to McDonogh (Md.), 43-37, in Baltimore. Brown was named team MVP. Bailey Greenberg dropped in 12 points.
