The Villa Maria junior with the infamous rise ball struck out 16 on Thursday, and tossed her second consecutive shutout, as the visiting Hurricanes topped Phoenixville, 2-0, in a nonleague softball game.

Briana Wright went 3 for 4 with a solo home run to boost the Hurricanes.

Abbot also struck out 15 Monday in Villa Maria's season-opening win over Merion Mercy. She has just two walks in two starts this season.

In other nonleague action:

Jane Goldstein went 4 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs to lead Friends' Central to a 9-4 win at Agnes Irwin. Caroline Scellacy struck out nine and allowed two earned runs.

Ashley Delgado went 3 for 4 with a run and four RBIs and Courtney Scarpato went 3 for 4 with three runs and one RBI as Springfield (Delco) cruised past Interboro, 9-0, at home.

Catholic Academies. Maddie Miller went 3 for 5 with two runs and three RBIs to lead Nazareth Academy to a 10-4 win at Gwynedd Mercy. Patricia Kailesse went 3 for 5 with two runs.

Ches-Mont. Kayla Abadie tossed a six-inning one-hitter as West Chester Rustin blanked visiting Octorara, 10-0. Mandy Placido went 3 for 3 with two RBIs.

Marissa Sees struck out seven and allowed no earned runs over five innings to back Downingtown West in its 11-2 win over visiting Coatesville.

Inter-Ac. Samantha O'Keefe struck out six in a two-hitter to lead Baldwin to a 3-2 win over visiting Springside Chestnut Hill. Freshman Samantha Martin contributed a triple, a run, and an RBI.

Lacrosse

Sophie MacFarland scored her second goal with 6 minutes, 26 seconds remaining in regulation and Friends' Central held on for an 8-7 nonleague victory over Penn Charter.

Jesse Rubin also scored twice for the Phoenix.

Lisa Bernstein led the Friends' Central defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Avery Shoemaker had three goals and one assist for Penn Charter.

In other nonleague action:

Meghan Troup scored six goals and Katie McDonough paired two goals with five assists to lead George School to a 17-8 victory at Perkiomen School.

Camryn Jones and Courtney Veisbergs both scored four goals to send Spring-Ford to a 13-12 victory over visiting West Chester Henderson. Ryann Bauer scored five times for Henderson.

Ches-Mont. Carson Adelberger scored four goals as Sun Valley topped visiting West Chester East, 12-9.

Olivia Muscella and Ashleyn Smith both scored five times to lead host Great Valley to a 14-4 win over Downingtown West.

Amber Lambeth scored six goals to shoot visiting Souderton past Plymouth Whitemarsh, 12-5. Ali Diamond scored three goals for Plymouth-Whitemarsh.

Inter-Ac. Laura Pansini scored three goals and Agnes Irwin rolled to a 14-2 victory at Springside Chestnut Hill. Lila Barker, Emily Fryer, and Hannah Keating scored two goals each for the Owls.
