Pa. boys and girls: Mount St. Joseph tops Gwynedd Mercy

While the season is still young, the stakes were high Saturday in a matchup of Catholic Academies girls' basketball standouts.

Both Gwynedd Mercy and host Mount St. Joseph entered the game undefeated with sole possession of first place on the line.

Behind Sarah Wills' 15 points and five rebounds, Mount. St. Joseph claimed the top spot with a 50-43 win over Gwynedd Mercy.

The senior also had two assists and a pair of steals for the Magic (8-0, 3-0 league), who are ranked No. 5 in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer.

Erica DeCandido scored a game-high 18 points for No. 4 Gwynedd Mercy (4-1, 2-1 league).

Westtown Invitational. Alex Blomstrom had 19 points, Lindsey Lane added 15 points, and visiting Agnes Irwin knocked off Westtown, 52-30, in the tournament final.

Boys' Basketball

Dalton Donovan's big third quarter was just what No. 9 Coatesville needed in a 54-40 win at West Chester Rustin.

Donovan scored 10 of his 15 points in the third as Coatesville outscored its Ches-Mont League opponent 18-11 in the quarter.

Trent Hugan scored 10 points.

Bicentennial. Colin Mulvaney had an 11-point fourth quarter that carried host Jenkintown to a 59-54 win over Bristol. The senior finished with 23 points, four assists, and four rebounds.

Ben Brophy scored 25 points, including 11 in the third quarter, to lead host Calvary Christian to a 67-62 win over Delco Christian. Brett Kikendall and Joel Thibodeau had 17 points and 16 points, respectively.

Tyler Millan sank five three-pointers en route to a 19-point outing to lead Lower Moreland in a 63-44 win over visiting Valley Forge Military Academy. Danny Duffey added 16 points.

Mercer Invitational Tournament. Nick Alikakos scored 37 points, including 12 in the first quarter, to pace seventh-ranked Episcopal Academy in a 70-52 win over Episcopal High School (Va.) at Hill School. The junior also had 10 rebounds. Conner Delaney dished out eight assists.
