Council Rock North's Brandon McIlwain was selected as the Class 4A state player of the year by Pennsylvania football writers.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior and dual-threat quarterback scored 49 touchdowns on offense while leading the Indians to a 7-4 record and the Suburban One League Continental Conference championship.

McIlwain, who will enroll at South Carolina next month, carried 227 times for 1,545 yards and 31 TDs. Also a defensive back and punter, he completed 147 of 252 passes for 1,720 yards and 18 scores.

McIlwain was joined on the Class 4A all-state squad by tight end Cary Angeline and offensive lineman Mike Clark, both of Downingtown East; Upper Darby running back Isaiah Bruce; and Central Bucks East linebacker Jack Lamb.

The Class 2A all-state picks included Prep Charter defensive lineman Karamo Dioubate and three West Catholic players: defensive lineman Tymir Oliver, defensive back Craig Jones, and linebacker Amir Postley.
