Merion Mercy reaches field hockey state final

Kelsey Farkas was the lone scorer as Merion Mercy defeated Crestwood, 1-0, in their PIAA Class 2A semifinal match at Whitehall-Coplay.

Kelsey Farkas was the lone scorer as Merion Mercy defeated Crestwood, 1-0, in their PIAA Class 2A semifinal match at Whitehall-Coplay.

Farkas was able to score for the Golden Bears with about 15 minutes left. Shannon Bedrossian made three saves for the shutout to send the Golden Bears to the final.

Merion Mercy will play Donegal at noon Saturday at the Zephyr Sports Complex.

The last time Merion Mercy appeared in the Class 2A final was in 2008, when the the Golden Bears lost, 3-2, to District 2's Wyoming Seminary.

Elsewhere in PIAA Class 2A semifinal action:

Donegal defeated Villa Maria, 4-3.

Lindsay Dickinson scored two goals for the Hurricanes and Emily Doyle scored one, there were no match for Donegal's Mackenzie Allessie, who scored three, and Cassy Stauffer, who scored one.

Girls' Basketball

St. Basil's Natalie Kucowski signed with Lafayette. Last season she led the Panthers to the District 1 Class A final, in which she scored 13 points.

Girls' Lacrosse

West Chester Rustin's Skyler Demis signed with St. Joseph's.
