Neumann-Goretti defeats Imhotep

Taken out of context, the look on Quade Green's face could have connoted dissatisfaction. Lips curled, nostrils flared, Green, the Kentucky-bound senior guard for Neumann-Goretti retreated slowly near midcourt after drilling a shot from nearly two steps beyond the three-point line in the fourth quarter of the Saints' 87-73 win against Imhotep in front of a packed crowd Wednesday night at Arcadia University.

The look certainly wasn't dissatisfaction.

"That was my Mamba [face]," said Green, who finished with 37 points. "That was my Kobe [Bryant]. That's all I remember. Just put the Kobe face on."

Green scored 24 points in the second half after the Saints led, 34-31, at halftime of Game 2 of a doubleheader as part of the Scholastic Play-By-Play Classic. He shot 4 of 8 from three and 11 of 19 overall. He also added 11 of 14 from the foul line, and added six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Green had 13 points in the third quarter, which gave N-G (2-0) control of the game. Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Daron Russell (1-1) led the Panthers with 25 points. Dave Beatty added 16 points.

The story of Game 1 could be summed up thusly: Archbishop Wood senior Collin Gillespie led and Abington followed.

The proof in a 71-46 Vikings victory came from an impressive second-quarter sequence that started with a Gillespie steal and ended with a thunderous, one-handed dunk.

Gillespie, who finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, and a game MVP trophy, stole the ball near midcourt and sped away with two Abington defenders in tow.

The 6-foot-2 senior left one defender in his dust but had to contend with 6-foot-8, 265-pound senior Joe O'Brien.

Gillespie's righthanded flush gave the Vikings a 21-14 edge and made it clear that he was the best player on the court.

The Vikings eventually parlayed that momentum into a 26-18 halftime lead that eventually ballooned to a 20-point advantage in the fourth quarter.

Tyree Pickron supplied 18 points and seven rebounds, while Keith Otto provided nine points.

The Vikings (2-2) outrebounded the Ghosts (3-1), 34-15.

Eric Dixon led Abington with 14 points, while Robbie Heath added 11.
