Boys' basketball showcase set for Saturday at Archbishop Wood

The Coaches vs. Cancer High School Basketball Classic, featuring three of the area's top 10 boys' squads, is scheduled for Saturday at Archbishop Wood. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

The five-game showcase tips at 12:30 p.m., with 6-foot-9 Mark Flagg and Pennsbury matched against 6-10 Abraham Deng and Valley Forge Military Academy.

At 4 p.m., No. 5-ranked Plymouth Whitemarsh, the defending PIAA District 1 Class 4A champion, takes on Public League power Constitution.

PW is led by Ahmin and Ahmad Williams, twin brothers and junior guards, and 7-0 sophomore Naheem McLeod. Constitution has a solid one-two senior duo in point guard Tamir Green and 6-6 Maurice Waters.

That will be followed, at 5:45 p.m., by No. 4 Abington against No. 8 Roman Catholic.

Abington is powered by junior guard Robbie Heath, sophomore guard Lucas Monroe, 6-6 sophomore forward Eric Dixon, and 6-8 senior forward Joe O'Brien.

Roman, the defending Class 4A state titlist, is fueled by senior guard J.P Sanders, 6-6 sophomore forward Seth Lundy, 6-4 junior guard Allen Betrand and rising freshman guard Lynn Greer III.

In the 7:30 p.m. finale, Archbishop Wood, fresh off an impressive 71-46 win over Abington, will battle Scranton Prep.

Archbishop Wood is sparked by senior guard Collin Gillespie, who netted 25 points against Abington, junior guard Tyree Pickron (18) and 6-11 junior forward Seth Pinkney.

Scranton Prep, one of Northeastern Pennsylvania's best Class 4A teams, is led by senior guards Logan Bailey and Paddy Casey.

Father Judge. vs. Octorara, 2:15 p.m.

Constitution vs. Plymouth Whitemarsh, 4 p.m.

Roman Catholic vs. Abington, 5:45 p.m.

Scranton Prep vs. Archbishop Wood, 7:30 p.m.
