Tuesday's Pennsylvania roundup: Neshaminy beats Parkland in state playoffs

Kristin Curley and Nicole Palmer scored as the Neshaminy girls' soccer team opened the PIAA Class 4A playoffs Tuesday with a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Parkland.

Jackie Ziegler assisted on both goals for the Redskins, who claimed third place in the District 1 tournament. Neshaminy will play Governor Mifflin in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Mia Baumgarten and Kenzie Milne had two goals apiece in Owen J. Roberts' 5-0 triumph over Archbishop Ryan in the first round of the PIAA Class 4A playoffs.

Mahogany Willis also scored for the Wildcats, who will face Central Dauphin on Saturday. Central Dauphin was a 3-1 winner over Pennsbury on Tuesday.

Archbishop Ryan advanced to the state tournament after beating Central in the District 12 title game.

In other Class 4A action, Council Rock South lost in penalty kicks to Conestoga Valley. The game was scoreless after regulation and two overtime periods.

Lansdale Catholic fell to Lower Dauphin, 2-1, in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs. Lower Dauphin's Mayson Light scored the game-winner in the second half.

The Crusaders secured their spot in the state tournament with a victory over Benjamin Rush in the District 12 title game.

St. Basil outlasted Palisades in penalty kicks. The score was 1-1 after regulation and two overtime periods.

Episcopal Academy received goals from Olivia Dirks, Hailee Moran, and Anna Salvucci in a 3-0 win over Agnes Irwin in the PAISAA quarterfinals.

Gi DeMarco netted two goals as Penn Charter held off Baldwin, 3-1, in the PAISAA quarterfinals. Sara Shipon also scored for the Quakers, who will play No. 1 seed Episcopal Academy on Thursday.

Boys’ Soccer

Zach Wheatley notched a hat trick in the first half to lead Archbishop Wood past Manheim Central, 5-1, in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs.

Perkiomen Valley lost to Hempfield, 1-0, in the first round of the PIAA Class 4A playoffs. Zach Wilson scored on a header in the first half.

Sam Wilson scored an overtime winner for Episcopal Academy in a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Haverford School in the quarterfinals of the PAISAA tournament.

Harrison Malone also found the back of the net for the Churchmen.

Field Hockey

Emily Doyle scored three goals as Villa Maria beat New Oxford, 10-0, in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A playoffs.

Lindsay Dickinson and Hannah Miller each had two goals for the Hurricanes, who defeated Mount St. Joseph to win the District One crown. Erin Finley, Mary Harkins, and Maggie Powers also found the back of the net.

Villa Maria will play Berks Catholic on Saturday. Berks Catholic took down Bonner-Prendergast, 4-3, on Tuesday.
