Former Sixers GM lands college coaching job

Former 76ers general manager Brad Greenberg, the man who drafted Allen Iverson and was fired by Pat Croce after serving less than one year in the job, was named men's basketball coach at Radford University in Virginia yesterday.
Greenberg had been an associate head coach at Virginia Tech under his brother, Seth, and helped lead the Hokies to a berth in the NCAA tournament this year.
It has been a tough road back for Greenberg, who had never been a general manager before being hired by Croce in 1996. One of his disastrous moves was hiring unproven Johnnie Davis as head coach. Croce fired both after the end of the '96-97 season.
Greenberg was also criticized for his free-agent signings, all of whom became busts: Mark Davis, Lucious Harris, Don Mac-Lean and Michael Cage.
After his firing, Greenberg said: "You cannot resurrect a team that had deteriorated for six seasons overnight."
But Greenberg, who previously served as director of basketball operations at the University of South Florida and was an assistant coach at St. Joseph's, has a new challenge.
"This is a fabulous opportunity for me," Greenberg said in a press conference yesterday. "Radford University basketball has tremendous potential to win championships, gain prominence in the Big South Conference, and compete in postseason tournaments."
