Rockin Amadeus, a 17-1 long shot driven by Yannick Gingras, finished in 1 minute, 51.2 seconds.
Wake Up Peter, an 8-1 pick, was second ahead of Captaintreacherous, the 1-5 favorite who went in with eight victories in nine events this season.
Rockin Amadeus returned $37.00 $12.40, and $4, Wake Up Peter paid $8.30 and $3.30. Captaintreacherous, whose bid for U.S. horse-of-the-year honors was dealt a huge blow, paid $2.10.
Chapter Seven, co-owned by Richard Gutnick of Blue Bell, won the $600,000 Breeders Crown for open trotters.
Driven by Tim Tetrick, Chapter Seven was the favorite and trotted primarily on the outside to wear down the leader throughout the race, Commander Crowe, the best trotter in Europe, for the win by more than a length in 1:52.3. Linda Toscano, who became the first woman this year to train a Hambletonian winner with Chapter Seven's stablemate Market Share, trains Chapter Seven.
The win was the fifth in sixth starts and seventh in nine races overall this season for Chapter Seven, who paid $3.50, $2.20 and $2.10. Mister Herbie returned $3.10 and $3.10, and Commander Crown paid $2.10.
The win brings Chapter Seven's career earnings to $1,860,033.
"I didn't know he could do that, but as long as he has a target, he won't stop until he gets there," Toscano said. "He only knows one thing, and that's to win. He deserves every accolade he gets."
Wheeling N Dealin, with driver Sylvain Filion, remained unbeaten after winning the $591,240 2-year-old colt trot. The even-money favorite took the victory in 1:56.0 for a ninth straight victory. Wheeling N Dealin paid $4.20, $2.80 and $2.50, Royalty for Life returned $3.90 and $3.40, and Murmur Hanover paid $11.40.
Jim Takter, trainer of Rockin Amadeus, also had victories with American Jewel in the $500,000 3-year-old filly pace and To Dream On in the $600,000 2-year-old filly trot in a stakes record-tying time of 1:54.4.
