Drexel graduate Zach Makovsky wins in UFC debut via unanimous decision

Drexel graduate Zach Makovsky earned a unanimous decision victory over Scott Jorgensen in his UFC debut during UFC on Fox 9 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

"I felt extreme exhilaration and extreme nervousness before getting in the Octagon," Makovsky said via a UFC press release after the victory. "There is a lot of pressure I put on myself but the UFC is where I want to be and the pressure is worth it."

The Bethlehem, Pa. native is a former captain of the Drexel wrestling team. Upon graduating he decided to take the career path of mixed martial arts.

He's had 20 professional fights before Saturday, but stepping into the Octagon and winning was the first major feather Makovsky's cap during his MMA career.

"I can't describe the feeling of going out there and getting that win, but there is still so much further I need to go, he said. "This was just step one in the process."
