Minor Leagues | Garrett lifts Thunder over Rock Cats

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Shawn Garrett homered and doubled and drove in three runs as the Trenton Thunder beat the New Britain Rock Cats, 4-3, in the Eastern League.

Garrett hit the homer in the sixth and the two-run double to cap a three-run seventh as the Thunder broke a two-game skid.

Jeffrey Marquez scattered seven hits in a seven-inning outing to get the win.

OTTAWA, Ontario - Gary Burnham drove in both runs with a pair of doubles as the Lynx edged the Red Wings in the first game of an International League doubleheader.

Brian Mazone struck out six in six innings while allowing only two hits.

READING - John Bowker's two-run triple in the fifth led the Defenders past the Phillies in the Eastern League.

Bowker had doubled and scored in the first.

Reading's Juan Tejada had a homer and a two-run double for all of the Phillies' RBIs.

Reading's Allen Davis, who arrived from Single-A Clearwater during the sixth inning, pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Chris Nicoll struck out eight in six innings to pitch the Blue Rocks past the Nationals in the Carolina League.
