NORWICH, Conn. - Bubba Nelson and two relief pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Reading Phillies beat the Connecticut Defenders, 2-1, last night in the Eastern League.

Nelson went five innings and gave up one run. Julio De La Cruz allowed two hits in 22/3 innings before Anderson Garcia recorded his league-leading seventh save.
