Free-agent shortstop Marco Scutaro and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a contract that guarantees him $13 million over three seasons. He had a career year with Toronto last season with a .282 average, 12 home runs, and 60 RBIs.
Righthander Brad Penny and infielder Juan Uribe turned down one-year contract offers to return to the San Francisco Giants.
Chicago White Sox general manager Ken Williams said he was not shopping closer Bobby Jenks.
