Phillies catcher arrested on DUI charge

Sardinha, a catcher who has seen limited big-league action in four major league seasons with the Reds and Tigers, signed a minor league contract with the Phillies on Jan. 7.

Sardinha, 31, was booked just before 2 a.m. Monday morning, and was releasted just after 8 a.m. after posting a $250 bond, according the Pinellas County Sherriff's arrest log.

A Phillies spokesman said the team was aware of the situaton, but declined to comment further.

Sardinha participated in Monday morning's workout, which began around 9:30 a.m.

Sardinha spent the last two seasons in the Tigers organization, appearing in 12 games - including 11 starts - for Detroit last season. He went 3-for-31 with a double and three RBI.

The native of Hawaii has hit .220 with 56 home runs and 294 RBI in nine minor league seasons. In parts of four major league seasons, he is 10-for-80 with no home runs and six RBI.
