Teen Tasered at Phillies game gets probation, community service

A teenager who became an instant YouTube sensation last month for being Tasered by a police officer when he ran onto the field at a Phillies game was sentenced to six months' probation Thursday.

Steven Consalvi, 17, of Berks County, was also ordered by a Family Court judge to complete 80 hours of community service in Philadelphia soup kitchens. If Consalvi completes the sentence with no problems and passes a drug test, his record will be expunged.

Accompanied by family members, Consalvi declined to comment to reporters after the morning court proceedings.

Consalvi made national headlines after he ran onto the field in the eighth inning of the May 3 game, in which the Phillies were playing the St. Louis Cardinals. Footage of Consalvi's dash across center field, in which a police officer chased him and finally took him down with a Taser, quickly went viral.

Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey defended the officer's use of force, but the incident raised questions about police procedures at the stadium and led to a change in security. Members of the Phillies' security are now responsible for chasing down anyone who rushes the field, then handing them over to police for booking and processing.

Consalvi was charged with defiant trespass, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. Shortly after the incident, Consalvi's mother shielded him from the media and apologized on her son's behalf.
